The History of Lost Atlantis & the Lost Prehistory of Greece
The "Hraia - Pythagoreia" festival begins its "journey" this year for the 18th year of continuous presence in the cultural events of Samos, it is co-organized by the North Aegean Region and the Municipality of Eastern Samos, supported by the "Lykourgos" Cultural Association of Pythagorion. It is held under the auspices of the Ministry of Tourism and has as communication sponsors ERT, ERT 3, the Second Program and all the Samian media.
The opening event took place on Saturday, May 11 at 19:30, at the New Town Hall of Pythagoreion, with the speech of archaeologist Maria Viglaki entitled "The Antiquities of Samos".
Ms. Viglaki, Honorary Head of the Department of Prehistoric Classical Archeology of the YPPO, presented selected findings from the multi-year excavation research in the area of the ancient city of Samos, Heraion and the countryside. Through the results of studies and superficial investigations by the archaeologists who were active on the island, the important course of Samos during ancient times was highlighted, confirming its characterization by Herodotus as "the first of the Hellenic and barbarian Poles".
The festival includes a multitude of events until September, with speeches, guided tours, theater performances, concerts and workshops. Among others, they stand out:
- Friday 5 July 21.00 Ancient Theater of Pythagoras: - Lecture by Astrophysicist Fiori Anastasia Metallinou: "The sounds of space and Pythagorean thought". Oranography and observation of the sky with portable telescopes
- The speech of Music Professor Nikos Xanthoulis on the evolution of Ancient Greek Music (17/6)
- Tuesday and Wednesday, July 9 and 10, 8:30 p.m.: Ancient theater of Pythagoras. Theatrical performance: "The Island of Miracles", by the creative group Aparamillo. The performance takes place within the framework of the Ministry of Culture's program "All Greece is one Culture". Directed by Thanasis Kritsakis-Dimitris Babilis.
- Wednesday, July 17, at 9:00 p.m., Ancient Theater of Pythagoreion, "A Midsummer Night's Dream" by Shakespeare adapted and directed by Dimitris Adamis.
- Wednesday July 31st. Ancient Theater of Pythagoras, time 21.00 : Concert tribute to Lavrentis Mahairitsa, with Dionysis Tsakni.
- Wednesday, August 7. National Library, time 19.00, "H Anonymous Queen of Herodotus''. Her teacher's speech Faculty of Philosophy of the EKPA Adamantias Koumioti.
- Friday August 16, 7:30 p.m., New Town Hall of Pythagoreion, Tribute to Nikos Kavvadias, with the writer Mitsos Kasolas and Nikos Kavvadias' poems set to music by a local band
- Monday-Tuesday August 19 and 20: The Heraean festivities with the reenactment of the ancient Heraean festival and the women's night games. It is the established events in Heraion and Pythagoreion that advertise the island of Samos to the ends of the earth
- The seminar on the quality of Samian wine and the concert for the 90 years of the Union of Wine Cooperatives of Samos (30/8)
The diverse program includes something for all tastes, from archeology and philosophy to theater and music, bringing together the residents and visitors of Samos in a celebration of culture that highlights the island's rich history and tradition.
